Dave Poole is an artist, animator and filmmaker, living and working in Portland, Maine. After graduating from the University of Maine in the 1980’s he began working in local television, writing and producing television commercials for WCSH TV, earning two New England Emmy Awards for best copy and best musical score.
In the late 80’s he moved to NY, where he wrote and produced commericals for clients such as HBO, Cinemax and Showtime. As he transitioned into computer graphics his graphics and illustrations were featured in magazines such as Newsweek, Macworld, Scientific American and Computer Graphics World.
In the 1990’s he worked as a consultant to technology companies such as Silicon Graphics, Adobe and Alias Research, to aid in the development of their respective technologies, and also consulted to media companies, such as MTV, the BBC and ABC.
In 1993 he became the Director for the Kodak Center for Creative Imaging where he designed and implemented new curriculum in animation and video. In the late 90’s he built a realtime 3d character animation facility for the Disney Company and completed a handful of successful animated short films.His short films have appeared in a variety of industry film festivals as well as on national tv.
Currently he works as an assistant professor at the Maine College of Art and the University of Southern Maine, and teaches seminars at the Maine Media Workshops. He is also earning an MFA degree (June, 2009) from the Art Institute of Boston.
